STUDENTS-FAMILIES INVITED TO ‘MEDICAL MYSTERIES FAMILY NIGHT’
Wed., March 10, 2010 - 5-7 p.m. Cafeteria (Light dinner from 5-5:45 p.m.)
No Charge – All Families Invited!
“Medical Mysteries Family Night” is rather like a “live” hands-on version of the TV show, “House”…where a brilliant albeit a little kooky doctor and his team try to assess symptoms and arrive at a diagnosis that saves the patient’s life in the nick of time.
Students and their families will become the “health practitioners” and go from one station to another (12 in all) and use real medical equipment and models, including blood pressure
monitors, temperature strips, stethoscopes, breath flow meters, flexibility meters, torso models and X-rays. The learning stations will include Blood Pressure, Breath Flow, Temperature, Memory and Balance, Heart Rate, Urine Test, Skin, Breath Rate, Lung X-rays, Throat and Mouth, Flexibility and a Blood Test. Students and families will record their findings and then try to solve the medical mystery!
This program is co-sponsored by WMS in collaboration with Bishop Museum.
FYI – Waimea Elementary School will be co-hosting w/ the Bishop Musuem a family night on Thurs., March 11, 6-8 p.m. with a “WaterWorks” theme. Students and families will be challenged to help combat stream pollution. It will be somewhat similar to the WMS family science night with learning stations to diagnose the cause/source of pollutants but will be based on elementary-level standards and scientific inquiry questions.
Dinner: Shoyu Chicken with steamed rice, Waimea-fresh green salad (dressing made by WMS garden classes) and brownies.
RSVP Requested: Flyers will be sent home in the Tuesday Envelope on Feb. 23.
